H.E. Dr. Hanan Mohammed Al Kuwari, Minister of Public Health, and in the presence of H.E. Sheikh Mohammed Bin Hamad Bin Qassim Al Thani, Minister of Commerce and Industry, and H.E. Mr. Abdullah Bin Abdulaziz Bin Turki Al Subaie, Minister of Municipality, inaugurated the Electronic Food Safety System “Watheq” that is implemented by Intalio and Ali Bin Ali.
Ali Sharara, Intalio’s General Manager in Qatar, highlighted the importance of centralized data and smart digital solutions within national public health projects, especially in the food safety sector, and how to meet global standards and apply the best practices in this field. “A centralized data repository helps decision-makers to set strategies for food security across the country,” Ali explained. “One of the most important benefits of WATHEQ is its ability to drastically reduce food waste as it will organize the production, importation, and delivery of food,” Ali added. In the same context, he also described how the Intalio Inspection system improved the efficiency and transparency of day-to-day operations. Finally, he emphasized the importance of Artificial intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT) in the future of the food safety industry, before receiving a recognition award for the efforts made to achieve the system.
Moreover, the electronic food safety system “Watheq” has been linked with the customs clearance system (Al-Nadib), which facilitated the inspection and approval process of imported and exported food products at all ports in the State of Qatar. The system allows accurate and fast sharing of information, reports, and inspection results between stakeholders and reduces the risk of food-related health issues. In addition, it will help track food in the market, from the production phase to consumption, and provide people with valuable information about the quality, source, and nutrients of the food they consume.
